You are your dog’s pack leader. That does not mean that you must exert physical dominance over your dog or scream at him to get that point across. You should be a benevolent leader…one who will use “language” the dog understands, even if you are challenged. This often becomes an issue during canine adolescence (8-16 months of age for most dogs). If you feel your dog is challenging you, seek help from your trainer immediately for tips on how to bring the problem into check. See yourself as your dog’s coach. Your dog is learning a lot of new things and you will want to help guide the behaviors you want to happen while extinguishing those you would like to eliminate.
